During Police Week 2011, IACP released this report detailing the Line of Duty Deaths that involve traffic related incidents. As you are aware, PoliceDriving.com has long been discussing this issue. In fact, it is the sole reason the site was formed in 2003. We are pleased that an organization such as the IACP would take a look at the issue.
With over 700 officers losing their lives from 2000-2009 in roadway incidents, we can no longer ignore this issue.
IACP President Mark A. Marshall sent a message to the more than 21,000 members of the IACP in response to this: “This is simply unacceptable. As police leaders, we can and must do all that we can to reduce these horrific numbers.”
