Out of the 183 Crashes by Edmonton Police Officers in 2011, just 58 of them involved a second vehicle. This has prompted the Agency to take measures to prevent this in the future, which we applaud.
Unfortunately, it highlights a major issue within Law Enforcement in the United States and Canada. That is the high number of one vehicle collisions involving police cars. In fact, according to Craig Floyd with the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund, since 1999, 43% of all officer fatalities behind the wheel involved just one vehicle.
