Covering 20 million kilometres annually on Calgary roads comes as at a cost for the police service, which averages more than one vehicle collision per day.
At September’s end, marked and unmarked police cruisers had been involved in 289 traffic incidents this year, ranging from minor paint scuffs to total write-offs.
An exact dollar figure for the collisions was not clear yesterday but 85 of the incidents registered repair costs over $2,000.
