Two Youngstown police lieutenants have been suspended without pay after chasing a suspect who was driving the wrong way on Interstate 680 in January.
An internal investigation on the 20-minute chase, which reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, resulted in a 5-day suspension starting Saturday for Douglas Bobovnyik and Jason Simon.
“It was not easy,” police Chief Jimmy Hughes said of his decision to suspend the two. “We want to catch the bad guys, we want to remove them from the streets … but sometimes you can go a step too far with that. In this particular case, they did too much. They went too far.”
