Officer Described as “Superstar” Killed In Crash: Struck Fixed Object

A Jemison police officer, described by the city’s police chief as a “superstar,” was killed Saturday night in a one-vehicle crash as he was responding during a rain storm to a crash, authorities said.

Donald Joshua Newman, 30, died in the crash shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 31 North in Thorsby, said Chilton County Coroner Randy Yeargan. “From all indications he (Newman) hydroplaned and lost control and hit a power pole,” he said.
