Inglewood Officer Strikes SUV In Intersection, Kills Driver

INGLEWOOD, Calif. — An Inglewood police car rushing to the scene of an officer-involved shooting collided with another car, killing the driver.

California Highway Patrol Officer Travis Ruiz tells the Los Angeles Times that the car collided with a Range Rover in an intersection shortly before 1 a.m. A woman in her 40s was thrown from the front passenger seat into the concrete. The driver and officers in the patrol car had minor injuries.

Ruiz says the patrol car had it lights and siren on but it’s unclear whether it had the right of way.

Minutes earlier, a police sergeant answering a report of a home-invasion robbery wounded two alleged gunmen leaving an apartment complex.

A police statement says he fired a shotgun. The men were taken to a hospital and there’s no word on their conditions.

Two handguns were recovered.
