Edmonton Push For Black & White Cars May Not Be The Safest

EDMONTON – The decision to feature black and white police cruisers in Edmonton’s fleet of the future was pushed in part by front-line officers, says the president of the Edmonton Police Association.

“Black and white seems to be the universally understood colours of policing,” said Sgt. Tony Simioni.

On Saturday, Chief Rod Knecht said the Edmonton Police Service will switch to black and white cars. The force is introducing the retro colour scheme to help law enforcers stand out on the city streets as part of a long-term violence reduction strategy.

Simioni said officers completed an internal poll in the spring, and many were keen on the classic black and white colour scheme for the cruisers.
