CHP Officer Dies In Collision

A Highway Patrol officer who was on duty was killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on crash in northern Mendocino County.

Officer Thomas Adams, 24, of Fortuna, had been on the force for about two years. He died in the 2:20 p.m. crash near the Humboldt County line, CHP Officer Paul Dahlen said.

The two vehicles collided about 14 miles north of Leggett and 13 miles south of Garberville.  One car crossed into an oncoming traffic lane, however investigators were still determining which one.
