LAKEWOOD, Wash. — A car was split in half Tuesday afternoon when it crashed during a police pursuit.
Police said the chase began around 10:45 a.m. near the 2400 block of 112th in Lakewood. A call came in reporting a 1993 Honda was car-jacked at that location.
An officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. Police said the driver of the car sped away and officers followed.
During the chase, police said the car hit a curb near 3900 100th St. SW, lauching it into the air where it hit a tree. The impact of the crash caused the car to split in half.
The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Officers said he will be booked into the Pierce County Jail for armed robbery of a vehicle and eluding a police officer.
