Tulsa Police Get Final Crown Vic

As Ford Motor Company winds down production of its iconic Crown Victoria, some police departments are scrambling to buy replacements for their fleet.

The Tulsa Police Department beat that trend and placed their last order at the end of 2010, Officer Leland Ashley said.

Seventy Crown Victoria Police Interceptors are now being outfitted and readied for the field and should hit the streets by October, just in time for the latest Police Academy class to complete its field training, Ashley said. Some of the new vehicles are already on patrol.

“People see a Crown Vic on the streets and they think it’s a police car,” said Cpl. Dan Ward, driving coordinator for the department’s driving team, about the cars’ wide use as a police cruiser.
