PDI has routinely fielded concerns by officers that have received these devices with very little or no training. While tire deflation devices are one of the most effective methods in managing pursuits, they can be very dangerous if not used properly.
PDI encourages initial training consisting of lecture and deployments with a followup on an annual basis. Policy should be clear on the safety measures and when the devices can be deployed.
