DODGE CITY — Using a calm tone, Lt. Gene Bates gave instructions to a young patrol officer with the Cullman Police Department.
“Hold your speed. Now ease a little bit closer,” Bates instructed.
Then the excitement kicked in.
“Hook him,” Bates said.
And hook the young officer did — sending the vehicle he was tailing into a 180-degree spin as its tires screeched across the asphalt.
Just like that, a successful PIT maneuver had been executed, and a demonstrated car chase quickly came to a safe halt.
