2 Dead Following L.A. Pursuit

 LA
LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) — A man and woman are dead after a suspect being pursued by police crashed his car into another vehicle at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and Florence Avenue.

The pursuit started about 11:30 p.m. when a police officer spotted a man driving recklessly westbound on Florence Avneue the Hyde Park area. It ended three minutes later in a violent crash, according to Lt. Peter Casey of the LAPD’s 77th Street Station.

A man who was driving a white sports utility vehicle or pickup truck died at the scene. A woman, who was a passenger in the car, was critically injured in the crash, but died a short time later at the hospital.

The couple who died were in the wrong place at the wrong time, officials said. “They were just random people driving north on Crenshaw, and they were struck by the fleeing vehicle,” said an officer at the South Traffic desk who would not give his name.

The suspect was injured in the crash and taken to a nearby hospital where he is under police guard.

The intersection of Crenshaw and Florence was closed for several hours while police officers investigated the crash.
